- Buy stainless, skip “gold plated”. Stainless steel pieces have survived showers and sleep; plating at Haul prices wears off at the clasp within weeks.
- Check the dimensions. Hoop diameter and chain length are in mm or cm. A 40 cm chain is a choker.
- Accessories beat jewelry. Bags, bands, charms, and clips are simpler and more consistent than anything with a clasp and plating.
- Expect polyester, not silk; glass, not stone. At $3 to $6 that is the deal, and it is fine if you know it.
What to skip
- Anything described as “925 silver” under $5. It is not, and the listing may vanish.
- Rings in “one size”. Returns are free but the wait is not worth it.
- Watches. Movements have failed within a month on every unit we have tried.
